For over half century, Toyota Corolla has been one of the best selling cars in the world due to its reliability and affordability. The 2020 Toyota Corolla is a heavily disguised model of the 12th generation that builds on the success of its predecessors. Some of its visible changes include a horizontal bar separating a two-tiered fascia, downward curving hood, and a nice flowing shape.
2020 Toyota Corolla Changes, Exterior
The exterior design of this car will be based on the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) modular platform. This platform has already been implemented in the C-HR, Prius, and the new Camry models. This approach is meant to reduce the production costs and better flexibility across various models. With this car, therefore, there will be the same exterior design for models produced for the markets across the world as well as the US, European, and ASEAN markets. This is a departure from the 11th generation model which had different designs for these markets.

The car doesn’t reveal many changes in size and shape. The front and rear end profile look milder than that of the Camry model. A downward slanting rear end and an angular shaped front grille are expected with this model. The grille tends to slant from the inside towards the outer edge. The sides reveal an extended tail and a huge back door. The back vinyl cutout reveals a horizontal taillight. The 2020 Corolla is lighter, also handling should be better because of the lower center of gravity.
Toyota Corolla 2020 Interior
The interior design of this car suggests that the model will retain the current Uber-friendly trunk and back seats. The large doors are expected to make it easy to slip in or out of the car. Their inside room is large enough to enable you to stretch comfortably while a more responsive and oversensitive touchscreen display has been included.
The steering column is expected to be slightly extended to enhance the fun of driving this car. The cabin layout borrows heavily from the previous models and is expected to present easy-to-use familiar features. A leather-wrapped steering wheel with a nice ergonomic design is expected.

The smartphone integration features through Toyota’s Entune app are expected to be retained in this car. A USB connection and Bluetooth capabilities are part of the interior technology features you should be looking out for. There are more enhanced driver aids, voice controls, and audio + navigation features.
2020 Corolla Engine
Going by the recent trend, Toyota is likely to retain the four-cylinder 1.8-liter engine used in the previous models. A CVT option could also make a return to the market or better still a typical automatic switch could be preferred. One thing that is sure is that the new TNGA platform guarantees superb fuel economy.
In 2016, Toyota revealed the 8-speed and 10-speed gear as their next generation transmission units to replace the current CVT unit. It is not clear whether these units have been implemented in the 2020 Toyota Corolla Spied model but the likelihood is high.

Different engine options may be offered depending on the market dynamics. Whether the same 1.8-liter engine will be the standard or not, one thing that is clear is that there will be some refinements to the 12th generation drive-train.
Price and release date
Toyota has already planned to open a new factory in partnership with Mazda to build its next-generation vehicles in Alabama. This factory is likely to open its doors in 2021. The new Corolla 2020 model is however expected to get to the market before then. This is supported by the fact that Toyota already has a Corolla plant in Mississippi.
This car is expected to hit the North American market by September 2019. The rest of the markets should expect this car somewhere in 2020. The basic model would cost about $20,169 while the high-end model will cost in the region of $23,281.
