Much has been said about the all new 2018 Toyota Highlander mid-size SUV have even described it as an icing on the cake. Well, it delivers much more than what you could expect in a three-row crossover family car and guess what? At a very reasonable price. It will be available in following trims LE, LE Plus, SE, XLE, and Limited. This SUV comes standard with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive will be optional. A new hybrid version is also available which comes standard with the all-wheel-drive system.

2018 Toyota Highlander Changes, Exterior

The styling of the 2018 Highlander has believed it or not, almost the same, as they haven’t done many changes to the exterior. It features the revised projector beam halogen headlights, the LE trim has with chrome accent, whereas the other trims have dark black accent headlights along with LED Day Time Running Lights. The hybrid LE and XLE come with 18-inch 5-spoke machined alloy wheels and a decent amount of sidewall that will most definitely guarantee you a smooth ride. The 19-inch 5-spoke dark chromatic aluminum wheels on both limited and limited hybrid trims, as well as on the SE trim, make things a hair firmer.

Curb weight is from 4134(LE) to 4354(Limited) lb., for the hybrid variant, it is a bit bigger with all three trim, LE 4398, XLE 4464, LIMITED 4861 lb. Towing capacity is 1500 lb.(only LE) to 5000 lb., The 2018 Toyota Highlander hybrid 350 lb. for all trims.
Dimensions: length 192.5 inches, width 75.8 inches, Height 68.1 inches, and wheelbase 109.8 inches.

Toyota Highlander 2018 Interior

The interior is pretty contented and soothing. The dash is wide with the controls grouped on the left side of the steering wheel. Other features include fabric upholstery, keyless entry, a 4.2-inches Multi-Information Display and Toyota’s Entune infotainment system. Every trim in the interior of the Toyota Highlander has its own fine finish of the faux wood. For those who prefer class then the limited trims have JBL audio systems, ventilated front seats along with leather upholstery. Highlander Limited and Limited Hybrid makes it even more interesting with the panoramic sunroof and 360-degree view camera system.

Toyota has invested more on the performance and efficiency of their next-gen Highlander. It might just be the most fuel-efficient vehicle as Toyota is offering it with three different engine options. The first one is a being powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 engine which can deliver up to 295 horsepower @ 6660 rpm and a torque of 263 pounds-feet @ 4700 rpm. It is available in both front and four-wheel drive. The other option they have for their customers is 185 horsepower @ 5800 rpm 4 cylinders 2.7-liter engine, with a torque of 184 pounds-feet @ 4200 rpm which is standard for Highlander LE that comes with front wheel drive only. The fuel economy is rated at 20 mpg for city and 24 mpg on the highway. The base four-cylinder engine is fitted with a six-speed automatic transmission while the V-6 is fitted with an eight-speed automatic transmission. With the V6 engine on front wheel drive, the estimated fuel economy is 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. The fuel tank is 19.2 gal.

2018 Highlander Hybrid

The hybrid version unites the 3 electrical motors and nickel hydride battery with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine, which is able to generate an output of 306 horsepower. It is the most fuel-efficient vehicle than the others with a fuel economy of 29 mpg city/27 mpg (30 mpg city/28 mpg Hybrid LE) highway on higher trim levels. The cargo space is extraordinarily large with the LE and LE plus models having 83.7 cubic feet behind the front seats, 42.3 cubic feet behind the second row and 13.8 cubic feet behind the third row. The suspension on the new Highlander is fine-tuned to prioritize ride comfort. The SE model has sports suspensions that make it more firm and fun to drive. The steering of all models is accurate, precise and light enough making maneuverability within the CBD easy.

Safety features

Talk of safety and Toyota might have just taken it to the next level. The new Highlander has been fitted with some of the most advanced safety technology instruments in the industry. Standard on all 2018 models is the Toyota Safety Sense-P, which is also available on this one too. This suite bundles together the following features:
• Adaptive cruise control
• Automatic-high beam headlights
• Active lane control
• Automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
• Blind spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are other cool features but only available in the XLE, SE and limited trims.

Price and Release date

The new Toyota Highlander 2018 prices vary for different trims. The base SE trim has a starting price of $31,030, LE Plus, XLE, SE and Limited trim cost around $35,450, $38,920, $40.090 and $42,280 respectively. Whereas the Hybrid LE, Hybrid XLE, and Hybrid Limited trims have starting prices of $36,670, $41,730, and $45,160 respectively. The production of the new Highlander model has already started in September 2017, and it is expected to reach the dealerships by the end of this year.
