2018 Lexus LS 500h Review

The 2018 Lexus LS 500 was introduced at the 2017 North America International Show and followed by this Lexus introduced the hybrid variant of the Lexus LS 500 at the Geneva Motor Show. The new 2018 Lexus LS 500h is a bold designed, performance-oriented luxury sedan. It features a low profile like a coupe with the long wheelbase. Like the LC Coupe and LS 500 model, the LS 500 Hybrid variant will also ride on the Lexus Global Architecture-Luxury (GA-L) Platform. The platform distributes weight evenly and provides the low suspension to the vehicle, which results in improved handling suppleness and strength. All these changes have given the hybrid sedan a sleeker stance.

The unique interior finishing is a result of laser cutting technologies along with different wood art techniques. The door panels show the unique pattern of hand-finished pleats. And that’s not it; you can even find in the complicated and clear-cut folds of the three-dimensional pattern the exclusive ‘L’ motif of the Lexus, which looks different in cabin’s lighting and in daylight.

Safety features

This new hybrid trim is upgraded with advanced technologies to provide maximum safety to its passengers. Along with 14 airbags, the 2018 Lexus LS 500 h features spontaneous Pedestrian Detection system with Active Steering. So in case if you are stuck in a situation where the collision is about to happen with the pedestrian detected on the road, the system will steer around the person while applying the brakes automatically. Under the hood of the new LS 500h is a 3.5-liter V-6 engine along with twin electric motors. Both in combination generate 354 horsepower. The gasoline engine is utilizing intelligent variable valve timing (VVT-i) technology just like the one you find in the Hybrid variant of Toyota LC 500. It features a D-4S direct injection along with rocker panels which are narrow and light in weight.
Being a hybrid variant, it caters a hybrid lithium-ion battery which has high power density but at the same time it is small and light weighted too making reduction in vehicle’s total weight. This would eventually result in improvised handling and performance as well as low CO2 emissions and better fuel economy. Moreover, you will notice a thin and more powerful cooling blower.

Plus the battery’s design is based on the satellite construction, which separates the ECU of the battery from the cell voltage supervision purpose. This hybrid variant is upgraded with the Multi-Stage Hybrid System which amplifies the combo power of battery and engine through four-speed automatic transmission. This allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 5.4 seconds. It also stimulates a 10-speed gear by pairing the four-speed transmission with the CVT. This system also allows the driver to utilize the paddle shifters at the back of steering wheel to manually select and hold the gear in ‘M’ mode.
