2017 Toyota Prius C Review

Toyota Company has launched the least expensive Prius C model this year. It’s a front wheel drive four-door car. The new 2017 Toyota Prius C hybrid car is a smallest one of its class in affordable cost. Toyota has efficiently utilized the high strength but light weighted steel for vehicle’s body construction which enables it to soak up and scatter the collision energy. Due to low Carbon dioxide emission, the ACEEE (American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy) has placed the Prius C on 8th rank on the list of the Country’s Greenest cars. The new 5th generation Prius C is going to be the fully upgraded and redesigned green car with improvised fuel economy. It will be available in four (1,2,3 and 4) trim.

2017 Toyota Prius C redesign, Exterior

The 2017 Prius C carries more sleek and sporty look with elegance. Its rounded nose with smooth corners provides a convenient and compact look. The bumper and rocker panels have received black finish as well as the front windshield and side window has black trims. The door handles and the rear spoiler is also in black color. Signal indicators have been installed inside mirrors. It also caters tail and brake lights along with low and high beam single LED projector headlights as a standard so the driver can easily see the road ahead and drive in the open places or in suburbs with convenience. The carved back flares and wide lower body styling gives the Prius C a sporty look. In Prius C Four heated side mirrors and LED fog lights have been added.

The customers have got the variety to choose the exterior color of their cars such as Tangerine Splash Pearl, Blue Absolute Metallic, and Absolutely Red. The new variant will be running on P175/65HR15 tires housed by 15 X 5 inches aluminum wheels. However, it also offers 16 inches aluminum wheels with P195/50R16 tires as an option for Prius C trim four. The overall dimensions are Wheelbase 100.4 inches, Length 157.3 inches, Width 66.7 inches and Height 57.3 inches.

The new Prius C One trim comes with illuminated and keyless remote entry system and has the telescopic steering wheel. The passengers can enjoy the music and videos on 6.1inches touch-screen display with Entune® Audio system along with Multimedia Bundle and four speakers. The driver will get all the info related to fuel economy, speed, temperature, Eco Saving, time and more on a 3.5 inches TFT Multi Info Display. Passengers can access their phone book and stream music through USB 2.0 port. More features include FM/AM CD player, Bluetooth hands-free and voice recognition along with iPod connectivity. Although it’s a small car, however at the hatch it does provide a cargo room of 17.1 cubic feet.

Prius C Two cabin shows more refinements with the six-way adjustable driver seat and finely trimmed seats with two-toned fabric. Cruise control feature is also present in trim Two. The cargo area has a cover and the back seat can be split in 60/40 manner. The Prius C three has received more technological updates including the navigation incorporated Entune App Suite, the illuminated remote entry with Push Button Start. The tailgate and front doors also have a Smart Key System. The Touch Tracer Display, HD Radio, SiriusXM All Access Radio, FM/AM cache radio and six speakers with Entune Premium Audio adds luxury to Prius C Three.

Buyers will also get three months free use of SiriusXM All Access Radio. As a higher trim, the new Prius C Four gets most of the luxury treatment. From SofTex trimmed seats to a powered tilted moonroof, you will get every element of the high-class vehicle. The front seats are heated, so is the steering wheel. The rearview camera is also incorporated in trim four. For additional premium look, trim two, three and four will be upgraded with soft-touch black chrome accents.

Advance suite of Driver Assist Technology

As promised by the Company all the 2017 models will be equipped with Toyota Safety Sense C-suite of driver assist technology as standard. So, the new 2017 Toyota Prius C also features the following advanced technologies of TSS-C suite.
• Lane Departure Alert which utilizes a camera to detect vehicle’s position.
• Pre-Collision System which detects the automobiles moving in front of the car with the help of a laser beam and camera and in the case of possible collision prompts an audio and visual alert to the driver.
• Brake Assist feature becomes active if the brakes are not applied on time in case of the possible collision. The system in such situation will auto apply the brakes to avoid accident possibility.
• Automatic High Beam facility which adjusts the beams high or low while detecting the ongoing and upcoming cars’ taillights and headlights with the help of the built-in camera.

To manage the platform of 2017 Toyota Prius C, the Company has changed its hybrid technology’s, now everything is lighter and smaller, but there is no loose in the quality. Under the hood is a 1.5 liter four-cylinder gasoline engine along with 2 generators/ AC motors. It is mated with the Continuously Variable Transmission. The efficiency is increased through Atkinson cycle and the engine generates 73 horsepower and a torque of 82 pounds-feet. It gives an out of 99 horsepower in combination with the hybrid system. The same powertrain is also found in Hybrid Toyota Yaris European model. As compared to last year model, the new variant’s EPA has also dropped and the new Prius C gives a fuel economy of 48 mpg/city and 43 mpg/highways, and combined/46 mpg.

The driver can choose from different drive modes to optimize car’s performance. For everyday driving, the driver can select Normal Mode. Whereas if you are looking for parking in huge parking plazas, you can activate EV Mode, which allows the car to move under 25 mph while running on Electric power completely. For reducing the energy consumption, the driver can switch to ECO Mode. It works by regulating the throttle operations and climate control system. To ensure the flawless application of electric power with the gasoline engine in different driving mode and according to the driving demands, Prius C utilized a hybrid control computer. To improve vehicle’s agility weight is distributed efficiently on the wheelbase while placing the fuel tank and hybrid battery below the back seat. The aerodynamic structure and vehicle’s rigidity has tweaked the suspension resulting in smooth driving experience.

Price and Release date

The releasing date has not been confirmed by the Company. The pricing will start from $20,000 for the base trim and of course, will be more for higher trims. Toyota has made it affordable for people to get a hybrid car at reasonable cost.
All the four trims of 2017 Toyota Prius C have got their unique features, so the buyers can easily select their ideal green car according to their taste and budget.
